Our Eternal Rewards

- Pastor Corey Erman

The Bible gives the faithful believer many promises about eternity. The believer who is born-again, washed in the blood of Jesus and who endures to the end fulfilling his holy calling will be rewarded by the Lord Jesus Christ himself in eternity. The true and repentant believers will not be judged for sins committed; however, they will be judged for their works in their lifetime on the earth. We will have to give an account with what we have done with all that God has given us (Romans 14:10; 2 Corinthians 5:10).

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. — Galatians 2:20

We are dead to fleshly life and what we may selfishly want from life. We passed from death to life by the blood of Jesus Christ (1 John 3:14). He has given us a new life and a new chance. We must use this life to glorify Him; because it is not ours, it is His.

One day, we will stand before our Lord and King and hear these words, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.” (Matthew 25:23)

The Bible clearly states that judgment begins with the church (1 Peter 4:17). The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ will be caught up (raptured) to heaven before the Great Tribulation that will come upon the earth. While the world is judged for their godlessness and rebellion (2 Peter 2:9), the Faithful Church will be rewarded in heaven. Each will receive his reward according to his works done for the glory of God and the advancement of the Kingdom of God on the earth (Matthew 16:27).

Our Lord and King Jesus took on a crown of thorns for us to be crowned with eternal glory as our reward. The Bible mentions several different crowns that will be given to believers in heaven:

¨The Incorruptible Crown (1 Corinthians 9:25)

¨The Crown of Righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8)

¨The Crown of Life (James 1:12; Revelation 2:10)

¨The Crown of Glory (1 Peter 5:4)

To the over comer He promises to give:  spiritual food (Revelation 2:7), a new name (Revelation 2:17), authority (Revelation 2:26), a robe of righteousness (Revelation 3:5), a memorial pillar (Revelation 3:12), enthronement (Revelation 3:21; 12:11), an eternal inheritance (Revelation 21:7).

Jesus says to His church, “Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.” (Revelation 3:11)

One day we shall stand before the throne of God and He will call each one forward to be honored. He will give us crowns. Then we shall cast our crowns at the feet of Jesus and worship Him (Revelation 4:10), for He is crowned with many crowns. He deserves all the glory and honor. It is only by His grace that we even have such a privilege to be numbered among the Redeemed.
