Encountering a Trial

Many times when believers are confronted by problems that try to pull them off victory’s mountain back down into the valley, they have a tendency to think they have done something wrong. But that isn’t always the case.

God never said that when we begin to follow Him and to obey His Word, we would never have a trial. However, God did say that although many are the afflictions of the righteous, God would deliver us from them all (Psalm 34:19).

I think it would help us sometimes if we viewed our trials from a different perspective. If you are successful in God, you are going to face problems — the devil will see to that. The devil wants to block the path and prevent the progress of people who are doing something of value for the Lord.

The problems of life inevitably come to all of us. That’s why it’s important for us to make a conscious decision to view life’s problems as stepping stones to greater victory and success, rather than allow them to become tombstones to mark a place of failure and defeat.

Neither the circumstances of life nor the actions of others determine the course of your life. You alone — by your own response to obstacles that may come your way — determine whether or not you are a success. Actually it isn’t even the obstacle, but your attitude toward it that determines whether you are an overcomer or a failure.

So many times when people are faced with problems or obstacles, they become overwhelmed and give up. But if you give up and quit when faced with opposition, you have turned the obstacle into a tombstone that will be a memorial to failure and defeat in your life.

In the face of seeming failure, hold your ground and say, “Devil, I will not stop! I will not quit! I refuse to turn around, and I will not give in.” Then proceed to take that obstacle and turn it into a stepping stone to go to the other side — to the victory side.

If an obstacle is trying to block your path to victory, don’t stop in front of it and accept defeat. Lift up your eyes to the One who is your Helper, and start walking right over the top of that obstacle saying what God’s Word says about you. Begin to boldly declare:  Greater is the Spirit of God that is in me than any obstacle that stands before me (1 John 4:4). Thanks be unto God who always causes me to triumph (2 Corinthians 2:14).

You will find that when you act on the Word of God, the obstacles Satan intended to be tombstones to mark your defeat will instead become stepping stones along you road to victory in Christ.

Realize that the devil is a thief, and he comes to steal the Word from your heart so that it will not bear any fruit in your life. Right when you have heard the Word, he comes to try to steal it before it goes deep into your heart and becomes a part of you when you apply it. Therefore, don’t let him steal the weapon that you have that will help you turn your situation around.

Make a decision that the Word of God will work for you!
